Description
TifTuf, a sterile hybrid Bermuda grass (Cynodon dactylon x Cynodon transvaalensis) developed by the University of Georgia, is ideal for residential lawns, sports fields, and high-traffic areas. It boasts exceptional drought tolerance, requiring 38% less water than Tifway 419, while maintaining a lush green color under drought stress. Its fine texture, rapid establishment, and superior durability make it perfect for high-traffic yards, supporting sustainable landscaping. TifTuf outperforms older hybrids in water efficiency, wear tolerance, and shade tolerance, needing only 6+ hours of direct sun daily.
TifTuf demonstrates faster spring green-up, exceptional density in summer and fall, and better cold tolerance, ensuring strong performance across seasons, though it goes dormant in Las Vegas winters. It establishes rapidly through sod (as it’s sterile and seedless) and recovers quickly from wear, making it reliable for consistent lawn quality. Regular mowing to maintain its fine texture and fertilization with 3–4 lbs. of nitrogen per 1,000 sq. ft. annually, plus 1–1.25 inches of water per week during the growing season, support its health. In drought, deep, infrequent watering promotes root strength.
This sod’s environmental benefits and resilience make it a top choice for Southern Nevada’s arid climate. Its ability to retain excellent fall color and withstand heavy use ensures a vibrant, durable lawn. Locally cultivated near Las Vegas, TifTuf is well-adapted to the region’s conditions, offering homebuyers a low-maintenance, water-efficient option.
